In December 1999, we began looking for a new show/performance prospect. Tia was 10 and Rocky was 8, but beginning to have some health issues that affected his back. Kathleen Mallery let me know that a litter from the lines of AM/CAN CH Castell Killin’ Time had been born December 17, and put me in contact with Ginger Salvo and Karlene Vance. Cody turned out to be the only male puppy available. We traveled to Mountain Home, Idaho, when the litter was 7 weeks old. He caught our eye when he wouldn’t stop untying our shoe laces and we brought him home the next week.

Unfortunately, the conformation ring was not to be. But that twist of fate only left more time for those things he enjoyed most. Cody went on to be a fantastic family companion and Frisbee maniac, and excelled in herding and agility.

We attended our first Pembroke Welsh Corgi National Specialty in the fall of 2006 in Santa Rosa, CA. At the herding trials, we met Keith and Suzie Highley and their corgi, Wyatt. Wyatt and Cody became the Utah contingent at the trials and qualified in their classes both days. The following two days were the agility trials and we had a blast.

Cody taught me a lot about working with reactive dogs. He was extremely sound sensitive and the agility teeter, sound and movement, caused us many problems. I will be forever grateful to Stuart Mah who, at a seminar we attended, spent the majority of his lunch hour working with us. At the end of 2 days Cody was fighting to perform the teeter. While it was never his favorite obstacle, he would do it if asked.

One of his biggest quirks is that he talked all the time. He grumped if you picked him up; he grumped when you put him down. Sometimes quiet rumbles, sometimes very loud, but it was always just noise.

Cody was another reason I love this breed so much.

You'll be in my heart
Yes, you'll be in my heart
From this day on
Now and forever more

You'll be in my heart
No matter what they say
You'll be here in my heart, always
