Just like humans, our pets can have allergies. Among the most common of allergies in dogs are food-related allergies. Here are three great articles that can help you recognize the signs of food allergies, and tell you how to treat them.
Corgis are showing up everywhere, from print to film to TV, and we want to alert each other as to where the appearances are! It's like an extended game of hide-and-seek, so time to keep your eyes open for sightings!
The basic idea is this: You send an email to
Utah Corgis for each sighting you have that fits within the rules below. We will keep a tally of how many each person has, and will post this tally on an ongoing basis. At the end of the three-week contest period, the person/corgi team with the greatest number of sightings will receive special toys (one toy for the Corgis, one for the humans) and bragging rights!
The Rules
1) Only one sighting per medium allowed (can't use multiple appearances in a TV show or magazine)
2) You cannot report your own Corgis
3) Sightings must be personally witnessed (can't use "A friend told me about an appearance")
4) Other Utah Corgis are not eligible as sightings
5) Only one sighting per series (If a Corgi appears in a book series as a character, for example)
6) Official Corgi lists/webpages are not eligible as sightings
Here are some examples of eligible sightings:
You are walking down the street and see a neighbor walking a Corgi. This counts as one (1) sighting, regardless of how many times you may see them after that.
While watching a broadcast of a dog show, you see both a Pembroke and a Cardigan. This would count as two (2) sightings, since they are different Corgis.
One day, while surfing the web, you come upon a webpage with a Corgi on it (we saw one recently for dog houses, for example). Since this is not an official webpage specifically dedicated to Corgis, this would count as one (1) sighting.
We reserve the right to determine whether a sighting is valid or not. If a sighting is not considered to be valid, we will send you an email letting you know why it's ineligible. Sightings should be submitted by email in the following format:

Brief Description of Sighting:
Members of Utah Corgis and their families are all eligible to enter the contest.
The contest will start on midnight (MST) of January 8th, 2007, and will end on midnight (MST) of January 27th, 2007. After the contest is over, we will post a listing of all the print/TV/movie/book/etc. entries we receive, so that you can all indulge your Corgi fixes!!

1/4 cup natural or organic almond butter (unsweetened)
1 egg
1/3 cup honey or maple syrup
1 Tbsp fruit juice (apple, pear, orange, peach, etc.)
1 Tsp vanilla extract
3/4 cup brown rice flour
1/4 cup tapioca flour
1/4 cup arrowroot powder
1 Tsp wheat-free baking powder
1 Tsp cinnamon
1/2 cup unsweetened carob chips (NEVER chocolate!!)
(About the ingredients: You should be able to find the various non-standard ingredients (almond butter, brown rice flour, arrowroot powder, wheat-free baking powder, and even carob chips) in any health food store near you. Shirlyn's, Wild Oats, Good Earth, and other similar stores should either carry these ingredients, order them for you, or be able to direct you to where you can purchase them.)
Combine the dry ingredients and mix well. In a separate bowl, combine all the wet ingredients and blend thoroughly. Mix the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients very slowly. The batter should look similar to regular chocolate chip cookie batter.
Expert tip: Place the bowl of batter in the freezer for 10 minutes. It will make the spooning of the cookies onto the cookie sheet much easier.
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Take about 1 tsp size drops and place them on a well-oiled cookie sheet. You can try rolling these in a ball in your hand and placing the ball of dough on the cookie sheet, gently pressing your thumb on them to slightly flatten the cookie.
Bake at 325 degrees for 10 minutes. These cookies should be moist and bite-sized -- perfect for training or an after dinner treat. Store in an airtight container.
